My elderly parents have just have just gone back to Sky and have the Sky+HD box. The problem they are having is that if the TV is turned off overnight when they switch on the TV is in the the wrong input mode (TV not HDMI 1) As they are elderly they find changing to the correct one confusing. Is there something I can do si it switches automatically like mine does. Its an LG TV. TIA
Sky+HD boxes do have a setting for HDMI Control which enables compatible TVs to automatically switch to the HDMI channel. It will depend on the exact model of LG TV whether or not it is able to do so.
If the setting is on and the TV does not play ball then it will not work.
For years I have been switching tv off at the wall socket every night & having loads of probs when switching on every day. When I mentioned this to a tv engineer I was advised that t/vs these days are best left on standby. Since I have started doing this I have had no troubles.
Had a look and that user manual is pretty convoluted. You need to read the bumf that came with the TV and see whether HDMI 1 or 2 is the TV default( some actually use HDMI 2) HDMI port. Then go into settings and look for preferred input source at switch on and choose the HDMI input as opposed to AV, RF, or whatever.
Setting Simplink to On should mean that turning the Sky box on changes to the correct input. If it does not then the only option is the Input button on the TV remote.
Thank you all. I have tried turning simplink on that doesn't work, have tried it in HDMI2 that doesn't work. Can't for the life of me find where to set default input so I am going to try ringing LG helpline tomorrow as a last resort. Many thanks
