Moped Advice
I'm in the market for my first moped. I'm potentially looking at a 125cc.
What I'm wanting to know is, how loud are modern mopeds when first starting up the engine and also when riding?
obviously I've got to think of my neighbours when going out late at night and coming home early in the morning.
thanks in advance

What is the legal definition of a moped in the UK?
Is a 125cc classed as a moped?
Scooters start at 50cc but they can go up to 750cc. Basically, if there's a platform on which to rest your feet while on the move, what you are riding is a scooter. If it's under 50cc then legally it's classed as a moped.
As long as it hasn't been modified, it should be quiet. I'm glad you are considering your neighbours. Also bear in mind that if you are doing food deliveries (I'm not saying you are) you will need the correct insurance.
Whilst your definitions are correct, Electrochem, 'moped' has become a looser term. This company calls these mopeds

I remember when mopeds had pedals.
