I am writing about a country boy born in 1937 - what would his parents have given him for his sixth birthday? He is to have a celebratory picnic - would his guests bring a present, and if so, what?
Thanks for the home-made idea; I had thought of a whittled whistle or small spinning top made by a friend's father. Disappointed not to have a picnic though, perhaps just a tea outside might be more realistic. They do live in the country, and I had only thought of their own egg sandwiches, and a cake. Many thanks for your input.
