What to buy for boarding school

My boyfriends 13yr old son is off to boarding school soon and I wanted to get him something nice but I don't know what. I don't want to get him something that will step on his ex's toes, and I want it to be fun but also useful/memorable.
Does anyone have any ideas, or has had a child go to boarding school and know what would be good for them?

Some tuck for his tuck box/duvet cover/super cool headphones/a gentleman's dressing gown/a poster/ps3/ipod

It depends what you want to spend. Maybe something as little as a cake for sharing with his new dorm...?

i think u shuld get him a picture of sum sort in a picture frame maybes of his dad or sum thing he likes might help him with his time at boarding school.

Presumably they will have the use of computers at boarding school. One of these new Memory Sticks for transferring information/files, etc. from one computer to another might be a useful little gadget. I think you can get them in various memory capacities from around �9 upwards.
