In this situation...

One of my pet huffs, is about certain drivers along a road i have to use to get to work.
It is a 50mph road, with 2 lanes each direction. The speed limit signs are frequent and clear.

However, on a daily basis, there are endless tw*ts who insist on driving in the righthand lane at between 30 and 40mph,even when the left lane is totally clear. (they are generally minicab/limo drivers who dont want to arrive to early to pick their fare up so as to avoid paying airport parking charges!)

Now, if one is an obedient, law abiding person, you would not undertake them using the left lane...

But given it is a pretty long road, if you just sit behind them, or alongside them in the left lane, like a good girl or boy, it is reaaally frustrating, and adds to my journey time.

So, if you were me, what would you REALLY do?

Done this a few times already - drive up behind them and if they don't pull over (assuming that the inside lane is clear) ..... start blasting your horn at them.
Works most of the time for me.
Hi, with 30+ HGV driving we used to come across the clowns that have no thought about other people only them bloody self's, I was once advised by the police on the ( M6) should you get behind one of the could not give a fck drivers report them to he police, my advise to save you getting wound up back off, think of what could happen life's to short, you are better off being 5 mins late in this world that be 2 mins early in the next.
Forgot to mention in my first post, that I flash my lights at them first.
This usually persuades them to pull over. If they don't pull over - then I blast them with my horn.
sorry but thats part of being a driver.BE MORE PATIENT even if it takes more time to get there
I`d flash my lights at them and if they don`t respond then it`s mirror, signal and floor it up the inside lane giving them a hand signal as you pass
Sorry, got to agree with cleggie. If I couldn't overtake, I'd stay behind until I could, or until they turned off. I often have the children in the car, and I can't afford to get impatient, irritating though it might be.
The people you mention (those travelling in the outside lane at 30-40mph) are driving carelessly. There have been successful prosecutions for just such action.

HOWEVER, I have witnessed two accidents where drivers have undertaken in such circumstances. The slow driver in the outside lane finally woke up, realised what he was doing and pulled into the nearside lane just as ELVIS began to floor it up the inside lane. Unfortunately the Elvis in one of the accidents I witnessed was unable to give the usual hand signal as he passed he never made it. He finished up in the ditch on his roof and I ended up in the magistrates court giving evidence against him in his prosecution for careless driving, which was successful.

There are many idiots on the road. When you encounter one, treat them as such, but dont join them by doing something equally idiotic. Just assume this is going to happen to you every morning, leave home five minutes earlier and if you get to work early have a cup of coffee.

A mixture of views here then!
For the record, i do back off and wait, i cant abide bumper shadowers when they do it to me... one touch to the brake and you are i trouble.

I agree New Judge, driving as they do is careless, but i have never once seen a Police car along that road doing anything about it, despite the fact that it is a constant occurance.

As for "just leaving earlier", I already leave at ridiculous o'clock on the way in to beat the traffic and avoid a 2 hour commute, so i'm in early anyhow. Knowing its not making you late is fine, but doesnt stop it being frustrating! And on the way home, i cant leave work earlier, and believe it or not, an extra 10 mins on the start of my journey can add 45mins to the total time due to hitting traffic.

Hey ho. Maybe i'll write to the airport police and have a moan, and suggest they come down and boost their bust figures for a bit!

If you flashed or tooted me Gizmonster I'd slow down and stay there and block you, I hate tw4ts that do that. However I'm never in the overtaking lane dawdling so the situation doesn't occur!

kira: overtaking on the left is not undertaking that is quite a different thing, often confused in UK because we don't have undertaking lanes.
