I have been asked to write a Parental Consent letter for my local canoe club for a Come and Try session that I am helping to organise. However, I have not written one of these before and am not sure what to include.

Can anyone help please?

You need to be clear about the purpose of the letter. If it's literally just consent then all you need is "I consent to my son/daughter participating in the blah blah session at wherever on whatever date" and a signature. If, however, you're trying to write a disclaimer letter to free yourself from any liability, then that's more complex and i'd get a solicitor to do it, if I were you.

Canoe Club Taster Session

Dear Parent/Guardian, We are running a Taster Session on 1st July 2005 at such and such a place when we hope that your son/daughter will come along and join in what we hope will be a fun day. Only trained people will be running the course and you may rest assured that your child will be in safe hands.

Run a dotted line along the bottom to be signed by parent/guardian, torn off and returned to you by child.

Forget the "disclaimer" part, the club must take full responsibility!!!

I aggree with Trish shouldnt the club insurance cover accidents?

Also as this is an attempt to sell the club to parents as a fun activity for their child It might be a good idea to invite the parents to watch/take part as well
