Baby Doll
20 Answers
My daughter is expecting her second child next month and it was my intention to buy a baby doll for her first born ( my granddaughter) so that she could care for the doll while Mummy is dealing with the baby.
It's my granddaughters birthday next month too but she will be 6yrs old.
Do you think she is too old now for a doll?
I was thinking along the lines of those dolls that function and the one I like at the moment is the Rock a Bye Chou Chou Doll.
Would welcome your comments and also if you could recommend a doll of this type.
Many thanks.

It will be part of the family and belong to her as well as to daddy and mummy. A big sister is a wonderful thing to be and if she is included she'll form a real bond with the little one.
On the other hand if she is excluded -"Mummy's busy. You go and play with your own baby." she will resent the intrusion and that could lead to all sorts of problems.

My daughter would never exclude her daughter, she is involved in everything including what everyone is having at meal times! It's even her voice you hear on the answer phone. There will be times though when my daughter is feeding or trying to get the baby to sleep and I thought a baby doll of her own would give her something to do that was similar to what her Mum is doing.
I'm still taking on board what you mean though.

Its a very good idea MissP but I think she might be a little old for a baby doll. How about a grown up doll?
But having helped Mummy with the baby maybe she could use the time when she's being fed etc to do something else which she can't do with the baby around.
Perhaps you could buy her a dolls house or a jewellery making kit or a wendy house or some playmobil (animals and vet themed).

Thanks maidup, I did look at the more grown up dolls and haven't ruled them out.
She already has a huge doll's house and the jewelry kits etc but the reason I also thought of a baby doll for her is because she does like playing at being a grown up, and she does like copying her Mummy and helps with everything housewifey but I'm stilling thinking of other options.

Hama beads are very good. You can get large ones or the usual ones. The mum can then make a positive experience of ironing them to make something (maybe as a present for grandma) http:// www.arg os.co.u ...sear chtext% 3EHAMA. htm
Unfortunately, I think that nothing will really distract your grandaughter from the attention the new baby is getting instead of her. In my, albeit limited, experience, you should be grateful that she is not a boy! My son completely ignored my daughter and proceeded to get up to all sorts of mischief whenever I sat to feed my daughter. My friends who had daughters found that they would be a proper little mothers.

I know! It was the best present I ever received I think! Even little buggies are good. I saw a young girl (about 11/12 I think) pushing a buggy the other day and thinking she was awful young to be taking a baby out. It wasn't until she got closer that I noticed it was a doll!! So I definitely think your granddaughter isn't too old! :-)
