Sensory Integration Disorder

I have a challenging little chap and I've been trying to look up online for any new tips or stories and have seen Sensory Integration Disorder mentioned a lot.

Has anyone had a child diagnosed with this and what has their behaviour been like to get diagnosed?

Never heard of it.......these paediatric psychiatric disorders are popping up with surprising regularity.

Do they actually exist or do they satisfy the middle class badly behaved children?

Sqad, I'm no medic but I agree, we never had any of these conditions when I was a child - children were naughty but I never heard of these behaviours being labelled anything.

I've never heard of it either though, cazzz - perhaps diagnoses are becoming more highly defined.

There is a story in our local paper about a little girl who won't speak outside the house - they have diagnosed her with selective mutism, I'd never heard of that as a medical condition, either.

Now we have got the preliminaries over with.....what is the anatomical. pathological, genetic or biochemical evidence that SID is an actual entity.

not hearing of something does not mean it doesn't exist, medical science has come a long way in the last 50 years.

I see it all the time through work, people who look for a condition, match up their child's similarities, put strategies in place to cope with it - which could result in a negative outcome.
Try not to look for a name, push to have him assessed instead. It could be something totally different than what you're reading online.

I agree with lore, I also think googling these things causes more harm than good, there could be a simple explanation, if you are concerned see your gp or health visitor. he may grow out of this.

try not to worry he is not the first "normal" child in the world to be challenging.
