Can anyone give me any suggestions as to how to make getting a haircut for my 4 year old son less traumatic?  He has been to the hairdressers several times but it is always a bit of a struggle.  My ex- childminder used to manage with clippers and I took over this role when I changed my work schedule so that we didn't need a childminder.  I have managed to do it twice but it is a nightmare!! Wriggling and screaming and getting really upset.  He needs a haircut again and we tried convincing him on Saturday but no go. Any ideas!

hi,what is it with little boys and haircuts?my son was the same and all my sisters boys as well!could you ask your ex-childminder to cut it for you?good luck
You could try a bribe - get your hair cut and you can have.....an icecream..........new football.......trip to the park.......

Or can you still get those combs that have a blade in them? That was the only way my Mum could cut my brothers hair!

Triumphed today!! Not that that means the next time will be any easier.  I sat him down at the table after Nursery with his play-doh and favourite TV Channel and snipped where necessary.  He was really good, and we've agreed to have another go tomorrow just to tidy it up a bit more.

Fingers crossed it gets better as he gets older but I'm not holding my breath!!

Thanks for your suggestions, might try and see if I can get the comb/blade you were talking about spudqueen as it sounds like the business.

My son howled like mad at his first haircut( in our culture we shave off baby's hair before the end of first year). I felt like the worst mom, to have such a small child go through such pain. But hten, soon the time came for another haricut. Three of us went, first my husband got a haircut infront of Adi(my son), and then he took Adi in his lap while a friendly person clipped his hair. I was busy giving him his favourite toys, or anything in the parlor catching his fancy. He has had 3 cuts after that, in the same ritual, so far so good
