ADHD CHILD ADVICE PLEASE
4 Answers
I have a 11 year old son who has ADHD. He is on concerta (one tablet a day 18mg).
In brief I am having a terrible time at school. 2 years ago he changed school and for the full school year (year5) he achieved so much, he managed to stay In class, worked without a 1-2-1, got his academic levels back above average made new friends and I finally felt like we was getting somewhere. Yr 6 came and its like we've gone back in time. He's back to having support in school has been excluded 2 weeks running, isn't allowed on his residential. I think this has a lot to do with a death in the family, move of house and a major bust up with his dad all within the month if September.
I've made a new appointment to see Camhs but I'm a bit stuck of what to do now.
I'm strict with him at home but fair and I very rarely have any trouble with him. He can play football and cricket without a problem and has a large selection of friends.
If anyone can recommend good techniques for me to adopted I would be grateful and also any issue with diet and ADHD (I do feed him on a healthy one now) or any other useful information or organisations I could turn to for advice.
I'm starting to get concerned as he will soon be moving to high school and he is missing out on so much.
Thanks in advance
Oh and I've just realised that wasn't in brief :-)

Is there help within school, lots of school will have specially training staff to help with emotional problems within school. (Infant schools have nuture rooms), senior school with have councelling sessions if needed. See the head teacher, explain the problems your lad is going through and ask what help is available in school. Excluding him is only adding more problems. Make sure the school know what he is going through.
Try to get him to talk to you, about how he is feeling. The more you talk the better things will be, he is probably bottling it all up inside.

I suspect that you are right that the 3 major events have upset him, I presume that you or someone else has talked to him about these things. He may be thinking that these things have happened because of him and why should he behave if bad things are going to happen anyway. Sorry this doesn't tell you what you can do. However he can't be feeling very good about himself at the moment and not being able to go on a residential is adding more to the notion he's no good. Why not tell him that things have been tough and have some special thing that he likes to do, and hope he doesn't thwart it.

This is very intereting reading and maybe worth a read, I have been involved with w young lad for about 3yrs and this was forwarded to me, and it was one of those moments i thought OMG, that is (B----)! (name ), and how we deal with him is so much different from before and his behaviour is so much better and he is so less stressed.
