Deja-Vu.....another Devil Dog Mauls Young Child To Death
Isn't it time they all pit bulls, mastiffs etc were destroyed to stop more families suffering?
What purpose do they serve? A vicious dog can hardly be described as a family pet?
Why would anyone allow one of these killing machines anywhere near children?

Although I can't see the reason for buying those kind of dogs at all, except as working guard dogs etc. I hate to see the loutish young men with their pit bulls and akitas used as a status symbols.
Dogs are all basically domesticated European wolves and the attack instinct has to be bred of trained out of them. Although dogs originally bred for fighting tend to be the worst culprits when it comes to attacking humans, the worst breed for biting are actually cocker spaniels.
I think that all dogs should be registered and chipped so that the owner can be identified. The owner should be held to account for anything the dog does in the same way as if he'd used any other weapon. A few irresponsible dog owners banged up for murder and GBH might help concentrate the mind.

There is no need to have these "devil dogs" I agree but the real problem is the owners who need to have their own kid's head bitten off before they accept they are dangerous. We've all seen them, my dog wouldn't hurt a fly etc etc. Any dog can turn any dog can kill the kindest fluffy bunny wonderdog can bite. They should never be trusted with kids never. We should look at punishing owners for what their dogs do. In the link it is effectively manslaughter through neglect and stupidity.
This subject has been raised distressingly often - because the instances of child deaths like this are rising.
As most people who know anything about dogs agree, any dog, of any size, breed, or temprement, can turn vicious without warning or apparent provocation - usually because pack hierarchy is involved.
This sadly means that new arrivals in the family are seen by some dogs as a threat to their position, and their instinct is to remove the threat - and when the dog in question is a banned breed, this is often the result.
"Why would anyone allow one of these killing machines anywhere near children?"
Because the owner believes their dog 'wouldn't hurt a fly ...' which is arrant nonsense because any and all dogs will attack if the circumstances dictate - and that is often something known only to the dog, who shows no advance warning of what is going to happen.
A simplre rule is - children first - dog after. Dog first children after is setting up this situation, and it's too late to worry afterwards.

How many mastiffs have killed children then?
The dog (any dog) should always be last, let through the door last, fed last etc so it knows its place in the pack. And it should never be left unsupervised with any vulnerable being be it your pet rabbit, granny or a child or it will try to assert its authority and move up the chain by removing them.
It is rarely the dogs fault. In pretty much every instance it is the owners.

I've seen a picture of the owner, a right thuggish looking type, the sort who usually owns these types of dogs and the sort of person who gives all dogs and dog owners a bad name, sadly. I hope and pray the police do him for manslaughter. The dog was a nuisance in the neighbourhood apparently and people were scared of it. Another useless, irresponsible owner. Poor little innocent baby.
