I am in the process of building some websites for friends.  In the past when doing a site I have bought the domain name, and then someone else has sorted out the hosting and just given me the FTP details once its all set up to upload the finished site onto.

However this time I have to sort out some hosting space.  It will only be for simple websites, but needs to support php.

Where's the best place to look for hosting space - can anyone reccommend any good companies and what should I be aware of or look for to be sure I get a good host?  What are the big names to go to?

Any advice would be much appreciated ta!

http://easily.co.uk/ Try this the site as everything you need
Personally I like web mania:

http://web-mania.com

You should look for:

- price per month/year
- space on server
- bandwidth per month
- supported technologies
- upload method

the basic package on the easily.co.uk site above only has 5Mb of space, and doesn't use FTP. for upload, you want to be using FTP. if you want to make it secure, you want to be using secure FTP. SSL etc. for the other stuff.

the web mania system offers one package, with plenty of everything.
