Locking Wheel Nuts

Earlier this week I bought a 2009 Smart Passion from a dealership 25 miles from home. I have now realised this has locking wheel nuts & the key for unlocking them is not in the car. This it seems would be quite expensive to replace. Am I within my rights to ask the dealership to obtain one for me? I asked loads of questions about the car before I purchased it but forgot about this. thanks for your help

They may have put the key nut somewhere safe - certainly worth a phone call.

Every car I've had with locking wheel nuts has come with the appropriate spanner. Have you looked in the spare wheel compartment? I've had the socket stored with the jack and wheel brace before. If not get in touch with the dealer it should be supplied with the car.

Yes, might be worth giving them a ring.

This happened to me so I went back to them, they had a box of random stuff they didn't know what car they belonged to and my key was luckily in there so it's worth a try.

Thanks for your advice. I have checked the boot thoroughly plus the interior sections of the car to no avail. Like some other cars these days, the Smart doesn't come with a spare tyre. I will email the sales guy...just rang & he's always with a potential customer!

I think I would do what Millie suggests, go there and politely make a nuisance of yourself.

I have now emailed the sales chap. I unfortunately can't just pop in there as the dealership is 25 miles from my home. Hopefully he will reply but if I don't get a reply, I will ring till I get to speak to him

The guy has just replied to say on the pre-sale paperwork it was written down as "in boot". Could anyone tell me sort of size thing am I looking for as I have no idea. As I said before, I did have a good look earlier. They said to go back if I can't locate it but it's over a 50 mile round trip so would prefer not to if I can help it. Thanks again

Since the car has come from a dealer he should sort it out but If you get desperate you could buy one of these:

What's the point of having locking wheel nuts , if you can readily buy a tool to remove them ?( i'm thinking of thieves nicking the wheel )

Reminds me of an incident years ago .

My dad parked his car in a church car park , while we went on an outing .
When we returned it was getting a bit dark in the day and first looking in the direction of the car , we thought it looks a bit funny .

On closer inspection , some ***** had nicked all the wheels and left the car on it's axles resting on bricks.

Found the locking wheel nut thingy. It was in a very obscure space in the boot. Glad I have located it. Thanks for all your replies x
