What was the best piece of advice you were given as a new parent?
Mine was to read all the books and leaflets given by the hospital; listen politely to all friends and family;
then go away with my baby and do whatever felt most natural for me and kept both of us happy.
(I moved away from family and friends at about 7 months pregnant so had noone on the doorstep to help.)
I have passed this on to several people since the.

The best advice I would give myself, to a new parent is to not take it all too seriously! Enjoy your baby, as before you know it , they have grown up!!
Hi Le Chat, yeah and that is when the trouble really starts!
best advice - enjoy every minute, forget the housework, nobody on their death bed has ever said i wish i'd kept the house tidier but it has been said i wish i'd spent more time with my children the more you put in the  more you'll enjoy being a parent and have FUN!

Mine was "Children don't belong to us, they are loaned to us for a short time ..." and in relative terms, that time is short.

Note the milestones - first feeding self, going to toilet alone, bathing alone, washing hair, tying shoelaces, walking to a friend - all things your child will do without you one day, and never need you for ever again. So enjoy them.

I am really lucky - my youngest daughter is sixteen, and still likes to be tucked in when she is tired, and I know I'm on borrowed time, so I never ever say No!

Best advice was don't worry so much, they grow up in spite of you.
