By stitch i mean cervical stitch? i have had 2 very premature babies and know i will have to have a stitch when we have another baby. so i would like the following info please, what gestation was it done? How long were you in hospital for to have it done? when were you back to normal and doing day to day stuff (i have a disabled son and am worried about not being able to do stuff for him) and how far in the pregnancy did you manage to get before birth?

The stitch(known as a Shirodkar suture) is usually inserted before 3-4 months of pregnancy and where I work the patients are generally kept in overnight, just for monitoring purposes. The procedure itself usually takes no longer than 10-15 minutes.

Any further questions/concerns should be directed to your midwife or GP surgery.

Good luck with your pregnancy.

Hhmmmm. well, I am male, but will answer best I can from what I recall. Our children were both a bit early, but mrs rampart still had to have the stitch. As I recall, she was to avoid lifting heavy things for six weeks following the surgery. I do not recall the weight limit, but it was quite low. She was not in the hospital very long at all.

Other than lifting heavy objects and, er... avoiding romantic advances from me, her daily routine was rather normal.

boobesque, I hope that helped. If I muddied the water, ask more, and I'll phone mrs r and get the straight answer.

I posted at the same time as philtaz - sorry, boobesque. I entirely missed the mark.

no probs, phil my gp is great, but i just wanted to hear from someone who has been through it! i especially am interested to know what stage of pregnancy was reached

Hey boobs, How you doing hun ?
May be totally out here,but.....A friend of mine had 2 premature births...When she was pregnant with her 3rd, The consultant found she had a minor infection that was causing her to go into labour early...
Anyway she was put on medication & baby was born at 38 weeks...Apparently its not common but could be the explanation of many premature labours.

It may be a long shot & I cant fully remember the details but I can contact my friend if you want to know more.x.

soz about the mad post btw been like it all night

hi jo, i know its not anything like that, they tested me when i went into labour with both my boys. i have an incompetent cervix, i have one contraction and the baby is born! to most women i know this would be a dream, but its not lol. thanks for your help anyway me dear!!

My friend had it done on her third pregnancy, but was still very high risk so was kept in hospital for weeks towards the end of her pregnancy. Her daughter was still over a month early, but is thriving.

I do hope things go well for you Boobesque - good luck.
