8-Year-Olds Set To Be Taught 'your Gender Is What You Decide'

Reports show children as young as eight could be told they can be a boy, a girl or neither, under draft lesson plans backed by the Scottish Government. And in resources for how to teach RSHP – Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood – teachers are advised to talk about LGBT issues with children from the age of five. www.scotsman.com/news/primary-one-children-will-be-told-your-gender-is-what-you-decide-1-4779133

In draft lesson plans for five to eight year olds, teachers are encouraged to use a video from homosexual lobby group Stonewall to promote LGBT issues.

The lessons state that gender “is different from the sex we are assigned at birth”. “When people grow up, sometimes they decide to change their gender so that they are happier with who they are, this is called being transgender”, it states.

For children aged eight to eleven, lesson plans declare: “Your gender is what you decide. You might be a boy or a girl, or maybe you don’t like to decide that.”

Final lesson plans – which are supported by groups including the Scottish Government and NHS boards – are expected to be completed by next summer.

My question is this: If you believe that ‘your gender is what you decide’, is eight years old too young to learn about gender identity? If you believe (like I do) that gender is decided at birth, are you happy that eight year olds could be taught this, or disturbed that this is another politically-motivated, unnecessary, sinister intrusion into the innocence of childhood, and an attempt to foist so-called ‘progressive’ ideologies onto our children?

I was hoping for a glimmer of misinterpretation with the article but I can find non. I despair.
I don't think it's going to cause any problems tbh. Most people statistically are quite happy identifying with their physical gender at birth, for some people that's not so easy because they don't feel male if they have been born male or female if born a girl. This is designed to help them and it will, it won't cause your sky to fall, it won't make any difference to little boys who feel like little boys. I'll be bringing my children up with this idea because it's the right thing to do, to make sure people feel they are who they really are.
Androgyny rules OK ?
As some experts in the article say, most kids of that age are more preoccupied with who they sit next to at the lunch table. It's foisting issues onto children from a (rather stupid) adult perspective. An I won't be 'avin to truck wi it oi tells ya!
No I don't think things should be foisted on them either one way or the other I just think things need to be open to it, so if I had a little girl who clearly felt more masculine I'd be alright with that and supportive of it, I wouldn't say 'Are you sure you're not a boy?' if she was all barbie dolls and pink tutus and confuse the hell out of her.
According to two of my nieces, their children chop and change their mind about which is their favourite flavour of juice/packet of crisps on a daily basis.
Aren't they at the "eeeergh, boys (or 'girls' vice versa) are 'orrible"
..............stage at that age
“It is being developed in line with the Scottish 3-18 in Curriculum for Excellence, and both content and methodologies will be appropriate to the age and stage at every level.”

I think it is right that children are taught that gender does not define who a person is or what they can or cannot do. In fact I think it should be so ingrained in society that it doesn't need teaching.

As the actual documents seem to be only quoted in part, and those parts seem to be the most likely to stir rather than inform, I will say storm in a teacup and pass on

more cobras from TROB, attention seeking parents charter. Does no one consider the children in this strange carry on?
Usually Zacs, as well as tutting at silly great-auntie for not knowing how to 'do stuff on a smart-phone'
I personally think it's a child protection issue if kids parents insist on speaking in Cockney Rhyming Slang and not using proper English, but I daresay you'd disagree :) x
"My question is this: If you believe that ‘your gender is what you decide’" - that would be false, your gender is assigned at birth, end of.
", is eight years old too young to learn about gender identity?" - Yes
"If you believe (like I do) that gender is decided at birth, are you happy that eight year olds could be taught this, or disturbed that this is another politically-motivated, unnecessary, sinister intrusion into the innocence of childhood, and an attempt to foist so-called ‘progressive’ ideologies onto our children?" - yes I agree 100% with that statement.
Me too. For gawds sake just let 'em get on with being children.

So little johny decides he's a girl and starts getting changed in the girls changing room. Cue irate parents taking their girls out of school! Ain't thought it through have they.
Encourage children to be open and ask questions and try as best you can to answer them fairly - no topic should be off the table, often they fear to ask as you or a teacher may be embarrassed.
It's just the result of adults getting a toe in the door in the pursuit of resolution of legitimate grievances then being allowed to go off on as many tangents as they like.

That and a very light workload that they top up with personal obsessions and odd ideas, usually on the taxpayer's shilling.

Absolutely mental.
On a par with some American schools teaching that evolution isn't real and that a deity magicked each species into existence in a week. Turns out we have similar false teachers here too then. Will kids also be taught that the world is flat ? How about those false moon landings too ? Much better than teaching science.
