B12 Injections And Muscle Cramps

For years I used to get awful muscular cramps in my feet, calves and thighs, especially at night if I moved in bed. I tried taking recommended supplements such as magnesium, but found no improvement. I even tried the old wives' tales of a bar of soap or a potato in the bed. Nothing worked.
A few weeks ago I was put onto weekly B12 injections for an unrelated condition, and the muscle cramps have completely disappeared.
My course of injections is due to finish next week, and I hate the thought of the muscle cramps returning. Is there a connection between B12 deficiency and muscle cramps, or is the improvement just coincidental?
I would take B12 supplements if I thought it would help, but my GP told me it is not a good idea to take extra B12 if your levels are normal which mine now are.

You do not mention for what reason you were given B12 injections, so i must assume that you were B12 deficient SO, yes, there is a connection between B12 deficiency and muscle cramps.
Of course, the commonest cause of B12 deficiency is pernicious anaemia, but that sounds unlikely as you have intimated that the GP is to discontinue the injections.
I cannot see that B12 supplements would signal the end of muscle cramps, but you will have to see.

Thanks Squad, I am on B12 injections because B12 levels showed depletion after taking 50 mg prednisolone for a number of months. I take prednisolone for GCA and fatigue is a major feature of the GCA/PMR experience for me. The B12 helped with the fatigue and also it seems with the muscle cramps. Thanks for your answer.
Thanks for the further info chanel.
