Evening all
My sons partners 13 year old brother was kicked out of his home by his mum. He has moved in with his sister , my son and their 8 month old baby in a two bed room flat.
My sons partner moved out of the house she shared with her mother when she was 15 as her mother was an alcoholic and abusive .
Social services have eventually gone round today after over a week of him living there. They visited the mother first , who painted a very bad picture of her daughter .
They have gone on to say that he can carry on living with them but they will not receive any financial help. My son is currently job hunting and they are receiving benefits and are finding it really hard to feed an extra mouth as well as clothing him.
I said surely they would be entitled to help.
The mother doesn’t want her son back, she also still has a 9 year old living with her .
Any ideas

they should get the child benefit
Have they been to the benefits office? At the very least they should be getting child benefit. Tell them to go and claim it.

Social workers do not work in the benefits office.
I'd have a bash at claiming child benefit if I were them at the very least.

I said to contact benefits office and also go to CAB
Def entitled to CB. It goes to the main carer.

I also said social services might be saying that to them so they make her brother go back to his mum. I know it shouldn’t be money oriented but they struggle as it is and can’t cope with the extra mouth to feed
It's not money orientated. If they need help to feed a child in their care, they need it, it's as simple as that.

Hopefully your son will find work and they won't need it anymore.
Surely the mother should be made to pay child support
Go to Citizens Advice Bureau. They might be entitled to child tax credit as well as child benefit, & an application to the Child Maintenance Service might be necessary as well.
It's possible the mother is still claiming the CB & CTC, in which case they'll have to demonstrate they are now the main carers.
