carrot sticks, cucumber, pasta twirls?
Question Author
i worry if he might choke on them?
raisins, beans,

carrot sticks, pitta bread, peeled apple, cubes of cheese or green beans,

hope this helps

Mine loves crumpets, a couple of chips, pizza crusts, cold cucumber slices. Infact anything we eat (within reason) finger sized. She's such a glutton!

rice cakes (you get great low salt ones), peeled apple slices as noted above (keep them in the freezer if your baby is teething - they work wonders on sore gums), chunks of any fruit really (peach, mango and pear are good), pasta is a good choice too as mycatis says, nice and easy to hold and easy to add a million different sauces to. Mashed up avocado and banana on toast, breadsticks/cheesesticks, pretty much any kind of bread, oven baked chunks of sweet potato, babybel or similar small cheese portion, dried apricots. Pretty much anything can be finger food to a wee one, just depends how much mess you are willing to deal with. My wee guy used to insist that yoghurt was a finger food, so spent much of his weaning months wearing it!!

As for the choking, well if your baby copes okay with toast, they should be fine with other things. Just stay close by and keep an eye out. Also, don't be put off by thinking Jnr won't cope if he/she doesn't have many teeth. They can "gum" through pretty much anything, especially with the massive amounts of saliva that wee people produce. Have fun!

Eggy bread is always a favourite with us, along with a lot of the other suggestions.

Got some more ideas myself for my little man as well!

thanks everyone, some great ideas cant wait till lunch 2moro.

My nine month old has just started on finger foods and he'll eat anything! Eggy bread, cheese on toast, steamed sticks of carrot or parsnip, steamed fruit sticks like apple or pear are all favourites. There are some great recipes in Annabel Karmel's cookbook for baby and toddlers - you should be able to get it from your library but it's a worthwhile investment as it gives recipes for children of all ages, and a lot are suitable for the whole family.

Good luck! x

There are a number of cookbooks available such as 'Cooking for babies and toddlers' - they would give you some good ideas. They have some good receipes for cheesesticks and rusks if I remember rightly.
Fish fingers....pasta & sauce (messy but fun).... peach slices...pear slices.....bread sticks... gingerbread men....

Yes, like lissy says - steamed carrot sticks, not raw.

Chips with the pointy ends chopped off, mini breadsticks a great favourite with my girl.

Also string beans, soft peas. Get them onto veg through the fussy 1 -3 year old phase and you'll save yourself grief in the future!
