Diarrhoea medication for under 12s

We're going on a family holiday to Sharm el Sheikh over Christmas and have been warned that we'll probably get stomach upsets while we're there. I'm taking Imodium for myself and my husband, but on every diarrhoea medication I've looked at it states that it's unsuitable for children under 12. My son is 9 - he has no health problems or allergies and is fit and well. I'm taking rehydration sachets, but does anyone know of a diarrhoea medication suitable for under 12s, or whether it would be safe to give a reduced dose of adult medication if he came down with a severe bout? try kaolin and morphine - good old fashioned remedy or peptobismal. Believe some of these are now in tablet form. Good to know that someone is being prepared!

I have been to Egypt and no one in our party, or friends we made there, experienced any stomach upsets. We just took the usual precautions of not drinking the local water, including not having ice cubes. and washing any fruit in bottled water. We were all fine.

If we want to be more safe than sorry, drop into your local chemist. they are usually happy to help.

I would agree with the Kaolin and Morphine answer.We take it every time we go abroad.

We didn't have any stomach upsets in Egypt - remember to use bottled water when you clean your teeth. Most people don't drink the tap water, but automatically use it when they brush their teeth.

I went on a trip to the holy land and a lot of people were ill , and I avoided Salad and the dips they had as starters and were OK also agree with bottle water and if your hotel hasn't got a drink making take kettle and tea bags coffee with you, if you ask at a chemist they will advise you of child medication sure they do one and imodium is good

As long as he doesn't use the water he should be OK . I was. However going to Africa as I often do it is recommended to use Ciproxin as a prophalatic. That means 125 - 1250 tablet as a preventative measure everyday to kill the bugs in the tummy B4 they do their worst.
I reckon he would be OK with 125 mg of ciproxin.
Ask the doctor. that is what I would usae for him and 125- 250 for you
