help!
I took my daughter to the docs this morning as she has had an upset tummy for the last 48 hours and no sign of improving. He told me not to give her anything to eat or drink for 24 hours and gave me dioralyte for her to drink instead. Great. Get home made her some, she had a sip says its nasty, and is now refusing to drink. ive tried everything to get her to drink it and she wont. My main concern is that she will dehydrate pretty quickly if she has nothing, Im waiting for some boiled water to cool at the moment to see if she'll drink that. any ideas please? Shes nearly 3 btw, thank you

The nice doctor told me that he thinks that rehydration salts like dioralyte are kind of self defeating, because they taste so disgusting people don't drink them and just get more dehydrated.
The cooled boiled water was one tip from the doc, he also said that weak orange squash (NOT the no added sugar type) or some flat lucozade were good, these contain the salts and sugars that your body needs to keep itself in order. He said that it doesn't take much of this to keep things ticking over, but just to start slow with very small sips, to make sure it isn't going to come back up again.
Ultimately, that is all dioralyte is - salts and sugars, squash or flat lucozade or coke are pretty much the same, just with more flavourings. you could put a tiny pinch of salt in the orange squash if you like, but make it really tiny so she can't taste it!
thank you for all the replies everyone, i have just had to give in and give her cooled boiled water with a little orange squash in, but at least shes drinking something now (i only have no added sugar one though). Do you think i should just add a little sugaer and pinch of salt perhaps or would that be doing the wrong thing? im not sure.....
Hermia - The dioralyte is lemon flaour. I tried a little sip b4 giving it to her and to be honest its nicer than the natural and blackcurrant ones! But she still refused to drink it.
Shes now complaining that she will only drink anymore if her Grandad comes to see her, so ive just asked my Dad to pop round for half hour! Anything to help the cause today! Thank you again for your helpful answers xxx
Emsey, glad you had a great time, did you get my email about absinths site? will find you somewhere im sure xxx
