My daughter was born in November 2002.

She starts nursery school (5 x 2 1/2 hr free sessions per week) next week (at the start of the term following her third birthday). Although we've been paying for her to go there for 2 mornings per week since March 2005 anyway!

She will start infant school in September 2007, just before she turns 5.

I think your son will be entitled to the 5 x 2 1/2 hr free sessions per week in September 2006 (i.e. the start of the next term following his 3rd birthday) and then he will start infant school in September 2008.

My son was born Feb 2001 and started preschool Easter 04 so was 3 and a few months. He started reception September 05 aged 4 years and 7 months.

My daughter was born July 03 and will start preschool Sept 06 so will just only be 3, she will start reception Sept 07 so will just only be 4.

Seen as your son is a few months older than my daughter i would assume he would start Easter this year (if the place you want him to go to does Easter intakes, i know some places only do Jan and Sept starts)

Have you got him a place yet? If so, i think maybe they should have written to you by now to say when start date is or maybe done a home visit( which is what they did with us)

Hope this helps

I think it might depend on what local authority you live under. Different local authorites have different ages they take children into nursery. Where i live (Manchester) they will take them 6 months after their 3rd birthday but next door in Salford i think they take them earlier. I'd check with your local school or in your local LEA website.
He should start school the September after he's 4 and will go into reception class, though legally he only has to start the term following his 5th birthday, but he would then miss out on reception class (and all the things they've learnt) and would start in year 1.
I agree with spudqueen. He should start in September 2007 just after his 4th birthday. My grandson was 4 last November and he goes into reception this September. He will have been in nursery 1 year and 7 months so he has had a good start.
