When I was a school boy I'd sometimes be sent to buy tins of baby food. I sometimes wondered what they tasted like.
The thought came back to me this morning. I guess they'd have been bland, no salt, but nitrous.
What say you? Any experience of checking if they were too warm?

Looks like auto-correct interfered with your OP, did you mean nutritious ?
quite nice as I recall, always did the tasting before spooning it

I'm not sure if it was auto-correct or the fact that I'm 2/3 into a bottle of Smirnoff had me misspelling nutritious
It probably tasted of food, as opposed to modern food tasting of salt and spice.
Used to taste the stuff for heat when my oldest was being weaned off the bottle, Sandy. 3 more children followed but i had earned my lesson. The word 'bland' does not do the horrible stuff justice. No wonder parents have to pretend to be airplanes to get the poor mites to eat it:-(
Not only had i 'earned' my leson, i had also 'learned' my lesson:-/
Ken - just read your first reply to my wife; she says she had the sense to just touch her lip with it. A lesson for when the grandchildren come along?

That's what i intended to do but curiosity got the better of me:-)
Gripe water is another matter - wonderful stuff. And you've got to try teething jelly; makes your tongue go numb.

Gripe Water had alcohol in it. Probably not the best thing for babies.
Nearly 80 years later I still use an element of gripe water to help me get to sleep.
I suspect baby food has changed a lot since some of us may have had use for it.
I'll admit to almost never buying it...instead mashing and pureeing much of our food...minus heavy duty spices...for lil pasta.
Sweet. It all tasted like sweet pureed carrot

They used to tell us that what we provided wasn't as good as their product. Mother's milk wasn't as good as their tinned stuff, their tins were better than mashed food. That kind of thing.
The alcohol wasn't taken out of gripe water until 1992
nope we know actually

Remember the 1970s prof of nutrition who got sued by the "food " companies for saying - slimming tomato soup was slimming - 800 cal I recollect - and that this was 'immoral' - they just put less in....

He also did research to show the added sugar and salt ( see first five answers) was for the PARENTS and their tastes, NOT the children's

as shown above, the parents wd have a little lick and decide on buying choices, not on what was good for the kids....
