children pick up on everything you say and if they hear it enough they will probably repeat it. you shouldn't have said a bad word!!!!

Just totally ignore it and it will go away eventually. The more you respond in any way the more he'll say it.Try inventing another word he's never heard, pretend to drop something and say " whatever you imaginary word is" and hopefully he'll think that is equally naughty and copy that instead :)

Just pretend you haven't heard it and change the subject. Ignoring it works. I think its just the tone we as adults use that makes it exciting for them to copy.

Remember, its just a phase. It'll soon be something completely different to worry about!

Thanks for your comment (Kirstyhev). I'm a parent and I am also human and cannot be perfect all of the time.(although I would like to be) Everyone makes mistakes!
My youngster couldn't help but hear my road rage one day as I shouted B*st*rd at someone, of course he latched straight on to it and repeated it several times before i stopped him and told him he had heard it wrong and was using the wrong word. I told him the word I had said was custard and kept correcting him every time he said it, eventually we added the word 'cream' to it and after a while he understood that if something was a 'custard cream' word he wasn't allowed to say it. It worked really well, and even now two years later he says 'custard creams' if he drops something etc!
Hi
Just ignore it is probably best.

As for Kirsthev, it must be very lonely being soo perfect!!!
