How can I get to grips with my blinding anxiety over my kids? I worry about them constantly. It's making me feel tense the whole time.

Its very natural to be anxious about them, but if you're a 'habitual' worrier, like me, its easy for it to get out of control. You don't say how old your children are or exactly what worries you ? Remember you can only do your best and trust your judgement at all times.

If you suffer from axiety you should speak to your doctor as he/she could offer councelling or mild mesdication. I started taking citalopram a few months ago and my stress levels dropped amazingly. I can cope with almost anything and can enjoy life without having to worry constantly.

Hope this helps.

I was/am just the same. My 'child' is now nearly 23 and I still worry. Like Ellie I am a habitual worrier and take citolopram!

All I would say is try not to let this worry show itself too much to your children. It can have negative results! They can become over cautious because of it and might worry about worrying you. It can have negative results! My son is hesitant now to tell me anything in case I start worrying.

Some take the responsibility of motherhood very seriously, thats what my doctor told me 18 years ago when I first went to see him after an anxiety attack. Still having them and the kids have grown up fine, 2 beautiful, happy, healthy independent girls. You are a mum, its what we do, its just loving and nurturing and a huge responsibility. Try to relax and when really anxious, take a deep breath in for the count of 7 and out for the count of 11, this really helps.....

Anxiety is terrible. Im only 24 and have not had children yet, but I would like to add one thing. You cannot worry about things that are out of your controle. The thoughts that enter your mind that make you nervous and tense, you can controle them and the level at which they effect you. There are some incredible books out there to ease anxiety and gain control over your thoughts. The Dali Lama has written some breathtaking and inspiring words of wisdom, also Gary Zukov (The Seat of the Soul). I would suggest reading and focusing on controle before taking medicine. We have more controle over ourselves, and our abilities then what we know. But there is also of world of things we cannot controle, and we musn't try because it just leads to anxiety and anxioussness.

sorry i spelled control wrong! ;)
