My 17 year old daughter has just had a brace fitted. Could anyone recommend a mouthwash or something that will help with soreness and ulcers? She is going through a lot of discomfort at the moment and the wax she was given doesnt seem to help a lot.

I'd be tempted to go back to her dentist for another check. I don't know how long ago the brace was fitted, (days or weeks), but it may need some minor adjustments.
I would go along with Wendy & suggest re-visiting the dentist. I did this when our daughter wore braces & the dentist & hygienist were very helpful. Good luck.
Agree with the above, she should definetely see the dentist again. I had various different braces through my teenage years and some of the agony with ulcers etc. is terrible. I remember the dentist telling me to use Corsodyl mouthwash (if I remeber correctly it tastes horrid), but I think it did help. But maybe the dentist can adjust it sklightly so that it doesn't rub so much. Good luck, and just keep reminding her all the pain will be worth it in the end, nothing beats a beautiful smile!

I went through bucketloads of bonjela in my teens when i had my braces on. they used to literally rip chunks out of the insides of my cheeks!

Bonjela definitley helped me

Thanks for all your answers, she will definately try the Corsodyl and make another appointment at the Dentist!

Warm, salty water helps too. It really cleans out the mouth. Don't swallow it though, just wash the mouth out with it. Listerine is really good for keeping teeth clean when you have braces on too. It may taste like paint stripper but the "sting" is it cleaning, right?

When i had my braces the wax did help. Perhaps your daughter isn't using enough? or perhaps shes not rubbing it between her fingers long enough for it to "melt" down and allow for easy moulding over the rough areas.

Hope this helped, and i'm sure your daughter will get used to her braces in a few days.
