These sons were killed by Jehu, who also disposed of Jezebel by having Eunichs throw her from the palace window. In fulfillment of the prediction of the prophet Elijah, Jezebel was trampled by the horses and eaten by the dogs (1 Kin. 21:19 ). Only Jezebels skull, feet, and the palms of her hands were left to bury when the dogs were finished (2 Kin. 9:30, 37)... By the way, in Hebrew her name was Ayzebel and translates as "Where's the dung?" nice...
I quite like the name and agree that most people today wouldn't have any problem with it.
Jezebel and Mary Magdalene have both been misrepresented in history, though not necessarily in the Bible itself. However, Clanad's reference to the meaning of the name would certainly make me think twice before giving it to a daughter of mine. It would still rate above Kylie, Tracy or Chantelle, though.
