Question Author
i no i no, but its so pretty! little jezebel! and people can nickname her belb! and awww i love it, but do u really think its toooooooooooo slutty and unapropiate?

Not the most appropriate name and it sounds even worse calling her 'little jezebel' ;o)

And Belb? sorry I don't see the cuteness in that either..sounds like it's short for Beelzebub!

its an awful name to give a child. if even you are wondering if a child would be bullied and teased then why even consider it? If you were unsure then you wouldnt put your own child at risk of being teased.
I think it's a great name - a name with attitude. If she wanted to shorten it in later life, she could be Jez or even Jess.

Nowadays, not so many people worry about who did what in the bible. After all, there enough Canes, Abels, Judes, Thomas' and Madeleines around, aren't there?

Our eldest Granddaughter's nickname is Jez to her friends & her username on msn! Her real name is nothing like Jez, but begins with an L!

Oh & I quite like it too!

....And one of her cats is called Jess too!

you can't seriously be thinking of saddling a poor child with that name?

you can bet your last fiver that if the kids don't pick on her she'll recieve sniggers from their parents!

Don't do it!

The noun jezebel has one meaning:

Meaning #1: a shameless impudent scheming woman

not really a pretty name!?

Although you could take some small comfort in the fact that Jezebel wasn't a prostitue, it would be difficult to name a daughter after a woman like this: (From 1 and II Kings)After her husband Ahab was killed in battle, Jezebel reigned for 10 years through her sons Ahaziah and Joram (or Jehoram). These sons were killed by Jehu, who also disposed of Jezebel by having Eunichs throw her from the palace window. In fulfillment of the prediction of the prophet Elijah, Jezebel was trampled by the horses and eaten by the dogs (1 Kin. 21:19 ). Only Jezebels skull, feet, and the palms of her hands were left to bury when the dogs were finished (2 Kin. 9:30, 37)... By the way, in Hebrew her name was Ayzebel and translates as "Where's the dung?" nice...

Call your wee girl whatever takes your fancy. I have a sister called Magdalene which is scarecely any better when you consider it's moral implications, and you're right it is pretty.
What are the moral implications of the Magdalene, noxlumos?

Im sorry but 99% of kids these days know nothing about the bible anyway, if you want to call her Jezebel then do it, its just like any other name.

By the way I think its a great name, I would proberbly consider it myself if I had a daughter.

I quite like the name and agree that most people today wouldn't have any problem with it.

Jezebel and Mary Magdalene have both been misrepresented in history, though not necessarily in the Bible itself. However, Clanad's reference to the meaning of the name would certainly make me think twice before giving it to a daughter of mine. It would still rate above Kylie, Tracy or Chantelle, though.

It is a pretty name but if you are worried what about variations such as; Jessica Belle or Jessiebel or a favourite of mine, Jessamine.

I'd still say go for it, all names sound odd to start with but children grow into thir names.

as james says most people wouldn't make the biblical connection...and how many people use the word 'jezebel' in everyday conversation?

i think it's a strong name, lovely. go for it!

jade is a popular name ...and one of the definitions of jade is an adultress...so i wouldn't worry too much.

Forget all the adult sensibleness above, it's true perhaps but the salient point here is, don't be so cruel. She will be mercilessly bullied, you'll make her life a misery and she'll grow up hating you. Just cast your mind back to school days and how even the slightest thing was picked on by the kids, this is gift. Children are extremely cruel, they have no sense of empathy they will be merciless. I spent weeks thinking of names for my 2 I studied every nuance and tried to pedict what the kids would latch on to as a pi55 taking opportunity, I think I covered the most obvious ones but they'll always find something believe me.
