As this website explains Stress can be a common reason that may increase the risk of such a problem. Incontinence is not un common in children of various ages so don't worry your not alone in this case.
My main advise would be to find out whats happening at school, you can do this in two ways:
By talking to his teachers, and explaining the situation to them (this may seem embarrassing but may produce results) And by Talking on a personal an relaxed note to your son, focus the questions on how he feels at school, no the actual problem itself.
If he or you does not feel comfortable about this idea then using a strong male figure who is close to him may remove some of the embarrassement.
Hope you can resolve this issue.

it might not only be a psychological thing... it can be because of his muscles around his "area", they can cause "holding it in" a problem, so he doesnt quite make it to the toilet. I had a similar problem when i was younger, it just involves working on the muscles. i am aware thatthis is difficult for a child but you really need to figure out what is going on. try and talk about it calmly.
Could be afraid to ask the teacher when he wants to 'go' or, worse, the teacher could not be letting him out of the classroom when he needs. Sounds awful, but does still happen, I have first hand experience of it very recently in my children's school.
Talk to the teacher, and if there are any other adults who are regularly in the classroom, ask them as well (Teaching Assistants etc) as they may see more than the teacher.
Best of luck

This was happening to my son too. He was wetting himself every day and he even started blinking a lot. I was so worried. It turns out that another one of the little boys kept shouting at him and it was really scaring him and making him upset. I had a word with the teacher and it was sorted out straight away...no more accidents. Please talk to your son and ask him what is bothering him. It breaks my heart it really does. Good luck X
I work as a classroom assistant and like others have mentioned stress , bullying and worrying can lead to a child having toileting problems. In my last school - I worked with a child who was 7 and who intentionally siled themselves as an attention seeking behaviour. There are many different reasons for something like this to happen but often a psychological reason like worrying about something is more common than a physical problem.
