My daughter is to begin babysitting for a neighbour but none of us has any idea what the going rate is, can anyone help?
Are there different rates for daytime and evening time?

14 year old daughter gets 20 for 7.00 -11.30pm
we give 20 quid for 7 till 2ish
crikey, i was payin a babysitter 5. an hour and that was 9 years ago!! dont time fly by!!
i babysit i get 5 an hour - after midnight its 6! wouldnt get out of bed for 20 tbh.
I can luckily rely on friends/family for free but wouldn't want to pay more than 20 for an evening, especially as most of the time it just involves sitting watching my TV and eating my food until we come home!

Perhaps I'm just stingy!
£20 for giving up your whole evening and having the important responsibility for looking after a little one is outrageous! When i used to babysit I would NOT eat the parents' food unless specifically told I could and I would make sure I looked in on the little ones regularly in case they woke up which they sometimes did. Would you be happy to be paid £20 from 7pm until 2am? Most of that money would go on the taxi to get home safely at that hour in the morning!

I forgot to say what rate I would recommend apologies! I would say it depends on where you based e.g. London is obviously more than some other areas but I would say about £6 per hour outside London and up to £8 per hour in London especially if the babysitter is very experienced and has first aid training etc. Also, I believe that after 11pm, the rate is meant to go up and the parents should pay for a taxi to take the babysitter home. Good luck to your daughter, she might like to take a children's first aid course with St John's Ambulance, they are quite reasonable prices and very useful when working with children.
