Help, How do i teach him to ride a bike

My son is 5 and im wanting to take his stabeliser off his bike.

Firstly do you think he is at the right age to learn or still too young?

If so then how do i start to teach him. I can not remember what my dad did when he showed me.

not too young. i ran behind my son with my hand hovering just under his seat ready to catch him when he wobbled .great way to get fit

I did exactly the same with my son. Perhaps you could try him on short grass. Would make it a bit harder for him to pedal, but a softer landing if you miss him, lol. Make sure he's got knee and elbow pads and a helmet and he can't go far wrong, although the pads will make it a little harder to move his legs and arms.

ive been trying for months and my son aged 7 next week still cant get the hang of it!! He is soooooo frustrated!!

This is where you think I'm a terrible parent. I taught mine as follows at about age 4 or so. Do the hovering thing mentioned before and if they don't catch on reasonably quickly, take them to the top of a grassy hill and with someone to "catch" them at the bottom run with them really fast until you can't keep up. Tell them no matter what keep peddalling and I pretty much guarantee by the time they have done the hill a few times they'll be able to ride.They only very rarely fall off.I've taught all my kids to ride like this and it does work if all else fails.

i'm with noxlumos, we took our daughter to a big park where there were lots of open spaces and small hills.
we put her at the top and gave her a gentle push, after a few times she was riding all the way round the park!!

i started off with taking one stabeliser off ! then as said in another answer, run behind them with your hand at underside of the seat.

It was the hill thing that worked for me when I learned.
