I have the following debts and am not on much money at the moment. My place of work have cut all extra hours so i only have part time money, but am hoping for a promotion, and if i dont get that i will move on maybe.
Details are as follows:-
1,250 on a sainsburies bank credit card - interest free until 3rd march
243 on lloyds credit card (at 17.4% interest)
and I have 677 in my current account with nationwide, with the facility to go into a 900 overdraft.
I anticipate my pay next month will be around 400 as opposed to 1000 this month! anyway i have little outgoings - rent 50 and other expenses inc phone perhaps 100. (i live with my parents and am paying only 50 per month due to the reuction in pay at work, would usually pay 150 a month plus pay for other things like petrol for mums car which i share)
I was going to pay off the lloyds bill totally today then try to pay the sainsbuiries one in chunks of say 300?! Should i use the overdraft facility to pay off a lot of credit card or just wait until my pay is better if i get a better job with my current employer - if i get this manager's job could pay all debts in a few months!
My opinion:
pay off the card that is acruing interest from the money in your bank account as soon as possible.
There is no point in going into your overdraft and being charged interest on it just to lower the amount on interest free credit card.
Then, as you say, pay off as much of your sainsburys card as you can before it starts charging interest.
ok ive just been into town to pay off my lloyds credit card! I will close the account when i get the next statement which should show the balance as 0 because i got a statement today and paid today so should be no interest accrued.
Perhaps i will try to get another 0% deal maybe with hsbc so i can pay the large one off in small lumps - more managable.
