Should I get a bed rail?
My son is almost 3 and sleeps in a cotbed. Over the next few months I plan to convert it from a cot to a bed. Because it is only a cotbed, he will literally be only inches from the floor if he were to fall out of bed. Do you think I should still get a bed rail for him? If so, can anyone recommend a bed rail which fits a cotbed?

Hi There,
My son also sleeps in a cotbed, we took the sides off about 6 months ago, He has fallen out maybe 3 or 4 times now but we "padded the floor" with pillows etc. He has been fine though, to be honest i think bed guards are a bit of a gimmick.
My son used to toss and turn in his bed hitting the sides and i thought he would throw himself ut of bed but he's been fine.

I wouldn't bother with a bedrail - if your son decides to climb over it, he would be more likely to fall headfirst, and also it would put him at a greater height, if you see what I mean? I'd agree with the suggestions to put some soft landings at the side of the bed - a beanbag worked for mine. Also don;t worry too much about him falling out - I was convinced all 3 of mine would do it, they all seemed to shuffle round their cots so much, but only a couple of falls in 11 years - not bad going!!
hi there i also have a little boy who sleeps in a cot bed my little boy is 2 and i plan on getting a bed rail im a bit unsure of where to get one from but i think it will be worth it as you may be up all night long if he keeps falling out of bed i suppose it depends on the child does he move alot in his sleep? my little boy turns the opposite way on in bed when he is asleep. lol thats why im getting him one coz i just know ill be up all night picking him up off the floor!
I never had a rail and both of mine move about the bed alot. They only ever fell out a f ew times but I always put a sleeping bag and duvet on the floor and no harm was done. If you have a rail then you will have to take it off eventually anyway so you mas as well not bother. It is a bonus you have a cot bed. Mine were higher than that. Good luck.
