how old is she?
Question Author
5 months,my son was sleeping through at 6 months but he was only child then,i put her to bed at 7 maybe i should put her bed later?? shes on a bit of food, when she wakes up she does take a bottle but i dont want her associating sleep with food or vice versa
at 5 months old my son was certainly taking a feed during the night so perhaps she is hungry or thirsty.

What do you call sleeping through? apparently it is anything over 6 hours in one go.

well sometimes she goes from half 7 til half 4 or sometimes she goes down at 8 and wakes up at 12!! she changes daily!!
she obviously knows your stressing about something so therefore she is playing on it (depends on how old she is as well) i do the reassurance thing whereby when my 11 month old has a stage of not sleeping when he goes bed and continues crying i go in pick him up say its sleep time put him back down (keep the door closed the rom dark) stroke his head and leave the room as much as i am tired and fed up i try not to show it and not let him feel it, but i never take him out of his room therefore he knows its still bedtime and your the boss so to speak and if she does wake in the middle of the night and you think she maybe hungery but not really its just comfort give her warm boiled water (have it ready) eventually she will realise. i am lucky my son slept through since his 1st injection as he was feeling unwell and i gave him medicine from that night on he slept through but the times he has woken i have perservered and not given him milk. how old is your daughter?
Expecting a 5 month old baby to sleep through may be asking a bit much. Waking for a feed during the night is common at this stage, its just very unfortunate she is waking her big brother. I cant see that there is anything you can do really apart from waking her before she wakes to give her a feed. Hopefully she will sleep the rest of the night after this and not wake for another, waking her brother in the process. This will probably also get her into a better night time routine instead of waking at different times.

my son slept through early, she does play on it tho! what is the age a baby can go through the night without a feed?? she goes off no problem and i feed her at say 1 she goes straight back down til maybe half 7 so shes not that bad, maybe im just expecting too much as my son was so good, even crawling by 5 months.shes totally different
no two babies are the same.

My son is two and still has a drink in the night, although he is old enough to not need me unless he empties it and wants more.
Like redcrx has said, no two babies are the same, so you really shouldnt be comparing your two. It sounds like your little girl is good, shes just a typical 5 month old who still needs a night feed to get her through the night.

I believe that at this age, they will only wake if they are hungry or thirsty, so only wake for a good reason. If she sleeps well after her night feed, you really are quite lucky as some babies will wake foe a couple of feeds at night, even at 5 months. I still think the key here is to get into a night routine of waking around the same time every night.

Good luck :)
Hi leewayne , I can't really add anything other than to say that recrx and psychick have given excellent advise for you:-)

yeah im a routine follower,i was just talking to my partner and realised she's not that bad,no two babies are the same i realise that, they have been brought up the same, just expecting too much i guess, she is good, just extra tired cos ive got the flu, thanks for advice gals
Oh poor you! Hope you feel better very soon.
awww, i hope you feel better soon. Everything always seems 100 times worse than it is when youre suffering with flu doesnt it? Add to the fact that shes at teething age and i can understand why youd like her to have been the same sleeper as her brother.

Im sure she'll settle into a better routine soon
Question Author
Thanks: ) They do say girls are harder, whether thats true or not i dont know, just hope she's not one of them babys that dont sleep through until 2 years!!! yeah she is teething but no sign of any yet.
Hi again if she is teething and abit snuffly i gave my son Medised you can use it for babies under one as well as being a painreliever it is the only medicene you can use for children under 1 year old that also has a decongestion in it as well as also a sedative - therefore relieving any stuffy noses chesty coughs easing the pain as well as the mild segative - i use it when my youngest is teething as he is always poorly and always develops chesty cough goes back on his inhalers
Good luck hope you feel better soon
