I want to take the family out next week and i wondered if you new anywere in the uk, were we could go. not to much walking (For the older members of my family).

Trentham Gardens near Stoke...something for everyone, nice shops and a lakeside walk or two of differing lengths....pick the short one for the older family members, bit further up the road, monkey forest, barbary macaques running free, they do a boat trip from the gardens to the monkey forest, so no need to walk at all lol!

You get a decent ride on a steam train, dinner on board if you wish, and you also get to look around the engine sheds and have a wander around the platforms. It's one of the few things everyone can enjoy no matter how old they are.

You might also want to check out Crich Tramway Village in Derbyshire, near to Matlock. Similar thing, but has trams instead and is much bigger. It's also one of the few places, I've noticed, that you can take family dog.

Polliana, a few years ago when I was staying at Stirling, we drove out to visit the Summerlea Heritage Centre at Coatbridge. Could be worth a look, but I can't find a link to it, I'm afraid.

It's only about forty miles - less than an hour's drive.

Reverandfunk - we live just under an hours drive from where we used to live many years ago and still have quite a few friends. It's amazing that they have the same attitude as yourself - nearly an hours drive - can't possibly go and see them. We're quite happy to pop over for an evening - after all, it's only just under an hours drive - not far at all! Amazing how for some people the glass is half full..........

It's 44 miles from Leicester to Nottingham, and I can do that in around 45 mins on a Saturday morning. There have been days when it's taken me longer than that to drive across town to my job - about 5 miles maximum.
