Colic

Our 6 week old son feeds ok during the day but at night he screams the house down after feeding and we think it may be colic or constipation. Can anyone suggest a way of getting all the excess wind up as he only brings a little up? This may sound stupid to some but he is our first child so we can do with some advice
Thank you

Try colic drops such as infacol which you give baby before the feed. I found they made matters worse but worth a try.
Stop and try to wind baby 3 times during a bottle.
If difficult to bring up wind then lift baby gently under the arms, making sure head is supported and legs hang down. This 'stretches' them in a way and can loosen wind.
some people also say that walking up and down stairs with baby on their chest with head on shoulder can help too.
is your sons poo yellow or green? is if soft or more like pebbles? it can give you a lot of info as to what is up with him. When he cries does he bring his legs up to his chest?

My 3 all had awful colic and screamed so much in the early evenings the neighbours thought they were being murdered. I'd go along with all redcrx's recommendations. One thing that helped mine was to lay them flat, face down, across my knees (supporting their heads of course).
Nothing worked for my middle child. I used to take her out in the car hoping she'd go to sleep. I usually ended up parked somewhere remote, with her in the car screaming and me stood outside sobbing my eyes out as I felt like a useless mother.
It seemed to last forever but all 3 stopped having colic attacks before they were 12 weeks old.

I could relate to Mrs. Overall experience except for the car part. You feel helpless and scared when the screaming starts. Holding the child up, gently rubbing the back while walking was comforting to the baby. Every afternoon around five pm this attack would come on and lasted for about half-an-hour, then disappear. Most people who've raised kids will understand. It will pass. Take care. xx
I'm sure that everyone eventually finds a suitable way to relieve colic in their babies, but I have to go with redcrx on this one. Changing bottles and teats, and removing them so the baby doesn't gulp down too much air, is helpful - but I did exactly the same with mine, by way of holding them up. Lift baby under his arms, and as his legs dangle down, this seems to stretch them and allow wind to escape. I used to do this straight after a feed, or if there seemed to be any discomfort, and the trapped wind came up immediately. Hope it helps.
