to be vegetarian. I've told him we will talk about it later on this evening. It doesn't bother me that he doesn't want to eat meat, I am fully aware of how to give him a balanced diet that doesn't include meat despite this going to take a lot more planning for him.

Is it right for me to change his mind on this by explaining that our meat comes from people we know and you know "mr soandso" doesn't treat his animals badly?

My advice would be explain to him that he should NEVER eat veal and pate de foie gras. And where possible eat organic or friendly farme food.

Maybe show him Battle at Kruger on youtube. But at the last count over 20 million people had seen it, so he probably has. Explain that we above Lions. Then tell him that God gave us superiority over animals on the food chain. And whilst they deserve respect and freedom from sufferring, we should still eat them.

If this doesn't work show him some horse sh!t and say he will poop hay-infested manure if he doesn't eat meat.

Kids eh??
I would try and explain to him about where you buy your meat etc and give him as much info as you can but you will probably find this is a phase he will go through. 6 years old is extremely young to want to do this and I bet in a few weeks he will want to go to Mcdonalds again! Just go along with it, maybe his friends are doing it too or he might have heard someone else saying bad things about meat, either way just because he has decided he doesn't want meat now doesn't mean he won't change his mind and it is not really that big of a deal, it could be worse!

Thanks for your answers. I'm not going to bully him into eating meat I'm going to tell him about where our meat is farmed and see how he feels but he wont be stuffing his face with Mcdonalds food on my watch lol

Wardy give rose veal a whirl.
Hi Goody

Mrs 4GS said that she went 'vegetarian' when she was 14, it was a concious decision based on her the fact that she didn't think it was right that animals were bred purely for human consumption.
This viewpoint was destroyed when she woke up one Saturday morning and had the mouthwatering aroma for her Mum cooking bacon sarnies. She is once again (I'm happy to say) an omnivore
Sorry, that should read of her Mum cooking bacon sarnies
jno jnr said at about 10 he wanted to be a vegetarian. We reminded him that he hated vegetables. He saw the point and didn't mention it again. The prospect of a lifetime of broccoli...

and Brussels sprouts
arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!
Have you asked him WHY he wants to be a vegetarian? Maybe he has heard children at school talking about it, but doesn't fully understand what it is. You could explain that some people don't eat meat due to religious beliefs or because of health reasons, but you could also explain that humans are naturally omnivores.
