I have a four month old daughter she use to be as quite and happy as they come. In the last week I can't seem to get her to stop screaming. I don't understand why she is doing this either. I feed her, change her burp her, and I try to play with her and read to her to keep her entertained but what use to work doesn't anymore. All she does is cry untill she falls asleep. I am not sure if she is in pain or what and I don't really know what to do. I am at witts end with her I haven't slept in almost a week and I think my husband is going crazy listening to the screaming.
Can anyone help what should I do?

Is she teething? Have you changed her formula/introduced any solids recently? Does she draw up her legs as if in pain? Is she constipated or does he have diarrhoea?
Sorry, I have to go now so I can't wait for your reply. If there is nothing you can pin down as the cause of your little 'un screaming, you MUST go to your GP/health visitor.

I know it wears you down - I think all of us parents have been there at some time.
If its not any o the things Mrs O was suggesting ie teeth, hungry etc, i would definenlty be taking her to the doctors. Could be something like an ear infection that you cannot see but it makes them so miserable.

Do you have an out of hours service? OUrs is very good and i have used it several times with the theory that if nothing is wrong, at least i have had them checked.
Try some gripe water or infacol as she may have colic which normally wears off at some point around 6 months,we've all been there and felt useless and tired and depressed because you cant help,my daughter and son where both like this but it doesnt go on forever,if it still persists i would say take her to the doctors,it may be her milk or griping pains in the stomach where she is getting used to food in her stomach, sorry im not much help but i dont think there is much you can do if all is well with baby! : )

i thought that the formula I gave her made her constipated so I switched it then she was going to bathroom fine but I don't think that she has went in a few days. I hope I find out whats wrong soon. Thanks everyone I am very grateful for all of your advice.
My health visitor suggested a little brown sugar in warm boiled water for constipation.

Do you mean she has been 'off' since you changed formula?

I breast feed her while I am home but while I am at work she gets a bottle because It is easier for us that way. I don't have a lot of time to pump. I think that I might have to go strickly bad to breast feeding because she wasn't like this before she was getting formula.
I would be very interested to see if she settled if you dropped the formula. Still think i would also get her checked by the doc if it continues. What about calling NHS direct??
By saying you dont think she has went in a few days, do you mean she hasnt had a dirty nappy in a few days? Surely you must know if she has been or not? If she hasnt then you need to find the best way of getting rid off the constipation for her because if she is constipated, she will be getting pains.

Call your out of hours doctor or NHS direct for advice on ways to help her until you can get her to the doctors.

If its not constipation and you think it may be colic, try Colief drops in her milk. This has to be added to her every bottle as well as to breastfeeding (Express some milk onto a clean plastic spoon, add the Colief and feed this to baby). This has eliminated colic problems with my 9 week old, well worth every penny!

Good luck with finding out whats wrong.

I would like to thank everyone for the advice I did take her to the doctors this week. The doctor said that she is just teething and that I need to get some baby orajel for her gums.

She was running a fever when I took her in so it helped them figure out what it was.
Thank you all very much.
Glad to hear you know what the problem is now so you can help her out.

Ive not tried the teething powders yet but my sister swears by them. I will definately be getting some when my baby starts teething!
i've tried the powders and i agree they are good. Bonjela teething gel is good too!
