talking of wedding presents lol

When we get married next year we are thinking of askin people not to give us presents but instead to give donations to Yorkhill Childrens Hospital, where Mr Cat's niece was treated for serious heart problems as a baby.
Do you think thats ok? or will it seem cheeky?

Considering that most people nowadays produce wedding lists with expensive items on and even state the brand they want (and send the list out with the invites!) then I think what you are doing is absolutely great. How will people think it is cheeky.
If I was coming to your wedding I would gladly give a donation (and I would also buy you a small wedding gift as well!
Just have a pretty white postbox at the reception.

Especially nowadays when people have usually lived together for quite a while before they get married.
Years ago people accepted any gifts with great pleasure. I had a washing up bowl and ironing board from my sister in law and a kettle from my parents in law, along with assorted sheets and towels and a coffee set! We had hardly anything in our home to start off married life and it was great fun putting a home together over the years. How times have changed.
Gosh I am really sounding old now. I'll shut up!!!

im with you lofty, i would much prefer to get 3 kettles than give a list without being asked to provide one.
I always ask a bride and groom if there is a list or a fund theyd like a donation for. My best friend was given homebase vouchers as thats what they wanted when i asked.
mycats i think it is a wonderful idea, i hope your guests agree x

That's an excellent idea, cats! I agree with the box idea, as people will feel like they are onctributing more maybe, by physically putting money into it. Plus, it will make people who are not well off feel much better that they can contribute to a good cause instead of giving you something that maybe would have made them feel "cheap", i you know what I mean. :O)
I'm sure you will still get loads of lovely wee presents though, I know I would try to get something small but thoughtful as well as the donation still!

Fantastic idea cats - all the very best for your future.
Actually Lofty Lottie, I'm not sure this is a 'modern' idea.
My eldest sister circvulated a list when she got moarried thirty-five years ago.
In those days people didn;t live together first, so they were starting from the beginning, but i still thought it was a bit strange.
They had items written in a small spiral notebook, and people tore out the page when they selected a present.
It was all household stuff - no brand names - but they did ponder friends of theirs who also sent out a list - one of the gifts they requested was a car!!!
