Daughter Unsettled at Nursery
Hi Everyone,
My daughter goes to nursery ONCE a week, she has gone x3 times since her settling in period and today in the 2nd time ive been called to collect her!!
Her settling in period was fine and her first full day she was fine. Last Monday she was ill with a Viral Infection but today she was fine in the morning but they have rang me saying she is teary and has a slight temperature!!!
Have had to ask my mum to get her at 1.00pm.
This is a bit of a joke, isnt it the nursery's job to settle and comfort her so she settles in?! I cant pick her up every time i drop her off and am i expected to pay for these days?!?!
Will obviously speak to the nursery tomorrow.
DO you think i'll have to look for other childcare options like a childminder on a more regular basis so she settles?

i am not sayin it is the same for you but maybe there is a reason why she dont want to be there, or maybe she just misses you and they dont have the patience with her. it is so easy to blame the nursery when sometimes it is just that the child misses mommy/daddy. maybe you can ask questions, find out why she dont like it.or take her in but secretly watch from outside, see what she does when you leave.

Thanks ethanryan, sorry to hear about your awful experience! Cant even imagine!
Thats another frustrating thing, that Mia isnt old enough for us to be able to explain things and let us know we'll be back.
I do think its just because she's going through a phase of missing us and im hoping that it was pass but i just thought that perhaps the nursery would be able to settle her eventually as it is there job to look after the kids and i cant afford to keep running out of work and look after Mia when there is nothing wrong with her!
(i wrote this question again in the family life section and got a few more answers).
And there's not a worse way to start your day than leaving your ltitle baby crying in the arms of a stranger!!

oh nat, what an awful feeling it is eh? at least with littleCRX he is old enough to talk to about it.
I cant recall at what age the seperation anxiety kicks in but its a stage they all go through. How is she at home when you leave the room etc?
The nursery should be able to settle her, give them ideas on how to (ie, Matthew likes his dummy and for his kisses to be blown away). They ought to know that long boughts of crying will raise a babys temp and also if the nursery has been warm these last few days.
The problem with them calling you for slightest thing is that she may work out that crying = mummy and going home. This is last thing you need.
Have you spoken to the centre manager for their advice. Sometimes the staff are newly qualified and dont have the experience of the older staff.
Of course if Mia was ill then you will get phone calls. I had to get Matthew yesterday as 2 hours after dropping off a happy boy he had become withdrawn and had a temp of 103!

Thanks red!! 103!! CRIKEY your poor little boy!! awww sorry he's not feeling better today.
I'm going to talk to the nursery manager, apparently they said next Monday will be the "telling point" as her key worker that she knows will be in.
She has her dummy and all her comforters so its just her crying when i leave...!! At home she's usually fine, might whinge when i spend all my time playing with her then suddenly go the kitchen but she doesnt make that bigger deal of it.
Taking her to the doctors tomorrow so will ahve a word with them too as she's got a REALLY windy/upset stomach and a rash on her body.
Its all happening.....

Hey red my luv, have had emotionally draining day as it was karls Uncle funeral and a long day, as we went to a walk in clinic after the wake to get Mia checked as her rash has spread all over her bodty and is on her cheeks and the palms of her hands. Gratefully, the nurse said it was either a viral rash or a delayed allergic reaction! Going to go docs and get a proper diagnosis tomorrow hopefully! Hope your little one is feeling better too xxx
