CRB Checks
Hi,
We are a charity and every year there is a fundraising event to raise money to send 10 sick children and a parent to Disney. The fundraising people also organise and attend the trip. They are not members of the charity. They used to run an events company but that dispanded and they now do it just for us.
Do the orgasnisers that go on the trip have to be CRB checked? They don't normaly have unsupervised access to the children but might be asked to 'keep an eye on them' while a parent goes to the loo or something.
The have been doing this event for about 12 years and the issue of checks has just come up within the charity.
Thanks

If a job (paid or unpaid) falls within one of the categories of regulated position then it is classed as working with children. Regulated positions include:
* Any employment in schools, childrens homes, day care premises where children are present
Caring for, training, supervising or being in sole charge of children
Unsupervised contact with children
* Other positions which give the kind of access or influence which could put children at risk if held by a disqualified person (eg management committee members)
Organisations are likely to fall into the definition of working with children include those which:
* Run youth clubs
Organise or arrange facilities or activities for children
Offer counselling to children
Run out of school play clubs
* Run play groups
So your people may not have unsupervised contact with the children in their role, but they reasonably could do and nobody would think it odd if they did.
I would strongly recommend your organisation carries out these checks.

I am going to say no, they don't
Because, when schools have mums help out on a school trip the mums are not CRB checked and surely it is this situation in reverse?
If any of the children are going with a carer minus any parent then yes, that person must be checked but as a gourp, I would say that no because the parents will be the main carer and the helpers are just that and would not be alone with any of the children
