god i cant believe this but....
my daughter has had nits for the past year! yes A BLOODY YEAR!!! i have tried EVERYTHING apparently they are more prone to blonde hair, but its a joke, i practically use the nit shampoo as her regular shampoo now!! i dont know what to do! we use it, comb them out but the eggs remain and remain and remain!!!! they just havent gone away, i know nits become ammune to the stuff so i change it on a regular basis, please help!!! this is getting to be a joke, when i think they have gone, suprise suprise she gets them back!!! she wears her hair up everyday!!! i just dont know what to do!!! if she was a baby id litterally shave her hair off but she is 7 so not possible :o( at dinner time today im popping to boots to get my weekly suply!!

mu sil massages baby oil into the scalp and leaves a while then comes it out. the oil losens anything on the scalp, my boys havnt had them yt but they both suffer with cradle cap and this works to remove that off the scalp. its always wortha try cant do any harm

Thanks guys, yeah me and her dad have treated ourselves, havent actually found anything on ourselves tho, yeah i wash the bed clothes every weekend,

mumof3angels i hadnt heard of that cheers, i will defo nip the chemist on the way home and see if they have one, along with the conditioner hopefully in a week or 2 they will be gone forever!! lol

My kids have never had them, but my son came home from school yesterday with a nit comb, the teacher had apparantly issued them to the whole class - there was no note or anything and according to my son (age 7) the teacher didn't say anything about them - what a lovely free gift!!!

Do you think the class is infested and this is her subtle way of getting parents to sort it out.

its hard because we get posters up and letters home all the time, and i feel bad coz i know my daughter has them!!! she could be the one passing them around, but then again i treat her on a regular basis, she must be picking them up from others in her class as surely u cant have nits this bloody long!!!! you wouldnt believe how many nit combs i have as they come free with the product!! lol i have one for every kid in the school!!! lol

the only thing ive found to work on my daughter is a product called nice and clear twice a week you shampoo the hair in normal shampoo, rinse add nice and clear conditioner comb through but leave it in in two weeks they are gone it works i promise you. you can get it from boots 7.99 for a large bottle do the whole family on the same nights

and if you use nice and clear with the nitty gritty nit comb even better

Onlyme - my children's school's very good at overcoming outbreaks of nits, and tell parents that if they find them on their children, to keep them at home until their heads are clear, and to alert the teacher. The cycle of a nit can last for 14 days. As ummmm and julie said, if you're going to condition the hair, it needs to be done every day. The white balls you see in your daughter's hair are the spent egg cases - so unfortunately, there are perhaps a good few to get rid of. Nits can be hard to detect as they cling to strands of hair. Change pillow cases very regularly, use a good nit shampoo, and treat the rest of the family as well. The problem should clear up, but if her friends also have them, it's going to be a problem unless you have a word with their parents and they do the same thing. x

only thing that ever worked for my daughter was a very fine tooth metal comb and conditioner, done every other day.The plastic ones did not work, and the electric ones just stuck in her her hair and zapped her ear ( the crackling noise as it zapped her ear was something to behold ) a hair dresser also advised me to do final rinse with strong salt water solution as this dehydrated them and killed them ( never convinced that had any affect,but i was a desperate woman lol ) good luck, nits are a nightmare, and in most situations its one or two mums that don`t give a dam, that cause the rest of the decent caring mums all this hassel :-(

so your child has had nits for a year and you havent taken them to the doctor for anti biotics youve just come on here and ONLY JUST discovered about conditioning and then using a nit shampoo.

many many years ago, my daughter was plagued with them. every time I got rid of them she caught them again from someone at school, whose parents obviously didn't bother treating them.

have a word with the school and get them to send letters home. it's ridiculous.

btw, you can get the nit stuff on prescription, so it would be free for your daughter. best of luck.

Leg, my daughter has a mass of hair (no surprise, I know!) and it really was a nightmare. I could clear it but she would re-catch them within a few weeks.

there is a headlice repellent spray you can get to put on her hair when it is clear this will help prevent further investation.

Talk to your local health nurse or the teacher perhaps the child sitting next to yours is infesting her

the best thing is use loads n loads of conditioner on the hair, these leave in ones can be good coz the wee blighters cant get hold of the hair when its to soft with conditioner n its far easier to bone comb the hair when its wet and loaded with a good conditioner

Could it be that your daughter is being reinfected at school? I was a primary teacher and this was quite a common problem because not everyone is as concerned as you. Good luck, I know how distressing it can be

Conditioner doesn`t kill nits or lice, just makes them easier to remove with the comb.
