Can't get up in the mornings
9 Answers
I over sleep in a big way, I did all through teenage years and my days at uni - nothing special I thought, but I still do it now(at 23). The alarm will go off, I'll wake up feeling pretty awake but wont get out of bed. I do it when I have work, when I have social plans, I'll have alarms placed around the room, water by the bed, I have tried affirmations and positive thinking but I still wake up late.
For work I usually manage to haul myself out of bed 5 mins before I need to leave, for social plans I will sleep through, even when I have decided to do something chilled at the weekends - eg I will plan get up and watch a film and do nothing all day, I still end up sleeping 10-12 hours and waking with a massive over-sleep headache. I start to feel tired at 10.30/11 and can fall asleep fine, staying up late with the intention to get up late doesn't work for me as I can't do anything useful with my brain late at night so I think it is more than just being a night-owl.
Anyone else had this? It feels stupid going to the doctors with a lack of will power....
Cheers

I have had a couple of comments from close friends who think it is my body requesting more food as i am almost permanently tired so my body needs more energy but i have found that this doesnt work either.
I just really don't understand how people can get out of bed, even if i am really hungry or desperate for the loo i still struggle to move from the warm cosiness of my bed especially at this time of year!

I'm 37 and I still haven't grown out of the habit of sleeping whenever possible. When I was a child my very sporty family used to go to the local sports park to run, I'd lie in the centre of the park with everyone's tracksuit tops over me, and sleep :) I still find it a problem getting up in the mornings although I manage now that I've got a daughter who I have to get organised for school - if it wasn't for her I'd sleep all day!
I am 45 years old and have always needed alot of sleep. I value sleep more than I do food. It has always been that way, and at 45, things haven't changed. I don't like to get up either when the alarm goes off, but I force myself, and after a few minutes of moving around, I wake up fully. Have you tried turning on a TV and up the volume so you won't fall back asleep? I do that. Also, I've been unemployed since March of '09 and since being unemployed, I sleep 9 hours per day! I have tried setting my alarm a little earlier just so that I'm not sleeping that much, but I usually end up turning it off and going back to sleep for another hour to hour and a half. I don't know what to tell you. The body wants what the body wants, but if you have an obligation to attend to, such as a job, you have to force yourself out of bed. Like Nike says......"Just Do It"!
That means your body clock is so fcked up, its not workin properly. try to keep yourself busy the whole day, make yourself so tired that at the end of the day, all your body want is sleep/rest.
For waking up late, you need help from your family, a brother maybe. Tell him that you have a sleeping/waking up problem and ask him to wake you up certain time and the morning. Tell him that if you dont wake up, give him the privilege to slap you so fcking hard, im sure your brother will absolutely agree on that :) Hope that helps.
Better yet, try to read this book for positive affirmations http:// gettiny ourexba ck.com/ offer/
