Christening

I am about to have my son christened in the next couple of months. I seem to remember that you have more godfathers than godmothers or vice versa depending on whether it is a boy or a girl being christened. Does anyone know traditionally how many godfathers & godmothers I should have? Also, can you have the child's older sibling as a godparent?
