I've done a stupid thing

to add to all of the other stupid things I do.

Some guy called me the other day and told me I'd won a competition for a pampering and photo shoot day. I told him that I don't ever remember entering into such a competition as I'm not really into that kind of thing and he insisted that I had one. Anyway, its with a company called Paparazzi Studios in Great Portland St, London. the day is free apart from a £30 deposit which I will get back if I and 2 other people attend for at least 6 hours on the day.

Stupid, stupid me has agreed to this and parted with £30 last Thursday. My mum was going to come with me but she has said I should cancel it as it sounds dodgy. The problem is I can't get my money back if I cancel.

My question is - how stupid am I?

don't you get a week's cooling off time with phone orders in which you can cancel? Sorry, I don't know the law on this, somebody may be able to correct me.

They'll be making some money from you and whichever two friends you find then Tigger. These modelling agencies make you up then take several dozen photos which they compile into a portfolio. That generally costs you several hundred pounds to buy. Multiply that by three of course with your friends.

Of course, if you cancel they have only made £30 for doing absolutely nothing!

About 4 years ago my wife and I paid for my wayward step-daughter to have this done. It cost us £500 for a portfolio of 78 photos. They were very good I must say, despite the fact she then just waltzed off and did nothing with them. It just seems this agency has approached you rather than you them. A good sales technique!
