If there is no dummy, will kiddo use a thumb instead?
you could always chop those off Woofgang I guess?

;-)
that's what I'm thinking B00 ;-)
Hi forget - I gave all of mine dummies as I was breastfeeding and it was the only way to get them to give me a break! (I don't see it as caving - they found/find comfort from them, so why not?)
I was just about to say that woofy, it's what my grand daughter did & I hate thumb sucking.
My two sons just forgot about theirs when they were about 18 months/two yrs old.
My son had a dummy and has perfect teeth. My daughter sucked two fingers and had "bunny" teeth which had to be corrected. The fingers were much worse to get rid of than the dummy.
a sucked thumb can get sore and hard to heal as well
I mean cave in if they cry for so long for some kind of comfort. I know my newphew had one but my niece didnt so she must have found comfort in something else. I'd have thought in your case though as soon as the child found their dummy didnt give milk they would cry again
the brace that they wear for the bucked teeth normally prevents thumb sucking star

I dont have an issue with dummies but I am not going to disagree with a dentist, she also told me that nesquik milkshakes are one of the worst things you could give a child.

she is full of the joys of spring
Narr 4get, the sucking motion itself is a comfort.
nesquick is just flavoured sugar
so maybe thats why my niece turned to thumb sucking. I hate them huge dummies for newborns, I like the little ones
Hi forget - babies aren't that smart! They have different cries - one for 'I want my dummy' and one for 'I want milk'. The only real thing to remember if a baby has a dummy is to make sure that you have got loads of spares.

Just picked up on all your answers Thanks everyone. It sounds as though we have to be cruel to be kind.It is so difficult though when this seems to be such a comfort.
the cruel part is shortlived though oxymoron, they get over it quite quickly, stay resolute x
Dont take her to a chemist and then watch her stroke the display of dodis, telling you, you'll cry!
4get, i would rather your neice took a dummy than her thumb. I can never take her thumb away like a could the dummy.
And i was just like you in as much as i never wanted to give a dummy. But babies dont all do what you want them to do :)
Momcj gave the best answer, the trick is to get the child to give the dummy up, use the baby fairies ploy and hang a bag on the door handle and tell them if they put all their dummies in there the fairies will leave a surprise.
Buy a gift you know they will like to pop in the bag as one night it will happen, just mention it each day.
I agree, the thumb is much more difficult to shake than a dummy

lol boo, my daughter used to have 3 dummies on to suck, one to balance between her mouth dummy and her nose and the other one to rub her nose with.
Mine didn't have dummies and none of them sucked their thumbs either. If you don't give a dummy to a baby, it won't know any different and saves the stress of having to give it up later too. I breastfed mine on demand, so maybe that's why they didn't look for thumbs? I can quite understand with twins though :-)
