ranitidine

need some advice...My 6 month old daughter has had a problems with vomitting (reflux but not reflux disease) and poor weight gain since birth. She's been taking Ranitidine and infant Gaviscon on and off since she was about 3 weeks old - Ranitide was stopped a couple of months ago so that she could try Omeprazole (sp?). She couldn't take it, so she was put back on ranitadine, at the higher dose of 3mg per kg. How long can she safely take this dose for?
She also has high calorie formula so although she still vomits a lot, her weight is now satisfactory. Ranitidine makes some difference but is not a cure, gaviscon imo is a waste of time. We started weaning her last week, so far it seems to have made her slightly worse. :(

My daughter has suffered with reflux since birth. We started on ranitidine 3mg/kg three times a day, then went on to 4mg/kg twice a day at age six months.
At twelve months we switched to omperazole, and have been on it for the last two years.
The ranitidine dose is safe, and as sqad rightly said, as long as your daughter is being monitored by the paediatrician / gastroenterolgist try not to worry (should also add I am a pharmacist and the dose is spot on).
The omeprazole works much better than ranitidine ever did, although does not get rid of all her symptoms.
As a thought, if you are weaning, how about trying the omeprazole (Losec MUPS) again mixed in with some yoghurt?
All the best, Liz.
