what a beautiful baby boy. Why do they let the dogs go near babies. I had a german shephard and would never allow him near any of the kids, he was sweet natured, but he was a gaurd dog, so could cause considerable damage to anyone at any time.

It does'nt matter what kind of dog it is, it a hunter and unpredicatable. Thus should never be allowed to come close to babies and other small children.

The dog got jealous.

Im appalled after all the press coverage, this family still allowed a dog to go near this poor innocent baby.

Totally agree with your sentiments phleb, poor animals get jealous and react naturally (unfortunately)....and the child suffers and so does the dog in the end. Why don't people think re animals and babies...it's beyond me. Such a sad situation and one they will all have to bear forever.
Sorry too many families get complacent with dogs around kids.
New laws need to be enforced.
lets not blame the parents or grandparents, suggest that this happened as a result of any complacency or ignorance. As far as I'm aware, the Police have stated that it was a "tragic accident" which is exactly what it was. Suggesting that the parents or grandparents have been in any way to blame is unfair. Its a very very sad story and my deepest sympathies are with the family. Pizza - I'm not really sure what laws you are suggesting should be brought in? xxx

Laws that say children and dogs not allowed together.....It is tragic, hope lessons will be learnt.
It's very very tragic but we don't know all the facts including the nature of the bite. This was an 8 day old baby. At that age any injury could have massive consequences, even a cat bite. Devastating for all involved but banning children and dogs together is impracticable.
