Back Ache

Hello.
6 weeks ago I had an operation to relieve a very painful back condition - 'Spinal stenosis and multilevel prolapse with neural compromise" There was also a cyst in the part which had narrowed. It was called Decompression, and since then the dreadful stabbing pains have gone completely.
However, this last week I have been kept awake at night by an ache in my back, and it is stopping me moving about comfortably. A friend said she thought it was the muscles healing, but it didn't hurt for about 5 weeks after the op, just a bit sore as you would expect.
I don't go for my post-op appointment for 3 more weeks, and wondered whether I should contact my GP about this ache, or wait until then. It affects me standing, sitting or lying, and the only relief is lying on my bed with my electric blanket on.
I was never kept awake at night before the op, which would perhaps have been expected.

I would agree with your friend........as you have been moving about more recently after you post operative convalescence, the muscles are coming into play and may be readjusting to their rightful function.

As long as there is no pain redness or discharge from the incision, then i would not worry unduly and take Ibuprofen 600mgms for the pain........I would wait the 3 weeks for your post operative check.

Thank you Sqad, I'm glad you are about. Unfortunately I can't take Ibuprofen as it reacts with my BP tablets (I rattle!),I stopped taking Co-codamol 15/500 and went on to just paracetamol, but will go back to the Co-codamol and see if that helps.
