They recommend not sleeping on your back or tum from about 6 months. Believe me its almost impossible anyway.
When heavily pregnant i was advised to sleep on my left side but by that point most positions are uncomfortable and you sleep however you can just to be comfy. Oh and you use every pillow in the house to rest parts of your growing body on.
I doubt what you have been told its true but if it makes you feel more secure then sleep on your back to begin with.
